Announcing our fee-based pick-up service
Dear Welcome Collective donors,
We are announcing a change in the way we collect donations from donors’ houses. Starting on Tuesday May 24th, our donation collection service will be fee-based. This means that we will charge a small fee for the service of coming to your home to collect your donations. This fee will be based on the types of items we are collecting and the distance we need to travel from our warehouse to collect them.
The need to ensure long-term stability for Welcome Collective has led us to make this change. While fundraising revenue and private and public grants are and always will be essential to our operations, this social enterprise initiative will help buoy our organisation against unexpected challenges, such as rising gas prices and the unpredictability of grant funding from year to year.
We have worked hard to design a fee structure that supports our mission while still staying well below the fees charged by commercial furniture removal services and similar charity furniture removal organisations in Toronto and Ottawa. And of course, you will always be able to donate items to us free of charge by bringing them to our warehouse or to a drop-off point.

OUR DONATION COLLECTION SERVICE
Our fee-based donation collection service provides you with a convenient way to donate items to Welcome Collective. Should you choose this service, we will schedule a pick-up day with you. On this day, our movers will take care of removing the items from your home and loading them onto our truck, as well as processing your card payment on-site. Finally, you will receive a charitable donation receipt via email for the value of your donated items.*
*We can only issue charitable receipts for furniture and appliances (not small items).
RatesOnce you fill out the donation form, you will be provided with an estimate of the pick-up fee. Our competitive removal rates:
- are based on the type of item we are picking up and the distance from our warehouse
- begin at $40 and will not surpass $300 regardless of the number of items you are offering
- allow us to maintain a reliable service and sustain our mission of supporting refugee claimants
Donations offers for pick-ups received through Sunday May 22nd will be accepted free of charge.
Donation offers received beginning on Monday May 23rd will be accepted according to the new fee-based system.
WHERE DO YOUR DONATION FEES GO?
The funds collected from the fees we charge for furniture removal go right back into our organization to help support our mission of supporting refugee claimants.These fees allow us to keep our trucks on the road, maintain our warehouse space, and keep our dedicated logistics team working to both respond to donation offers and deliver items to refugee claimant families’ homes.
WHO DO YOUR DONATIONS HELP?
Welcome Collective supports refugee claimant families in precarious situations - single-parent families, families with multiple children, families with pregnancies, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and unaccompanied minors.
In addition, your donations help us all by building the circular economy, keeping waste out of landfills and reducing the amount of CO2 that enters the atmosphere.
